One of the key challenges of data security relates to how we communicate electronically; namely email. How can we possibly keep the data we send by email safe and secure when there are cyber attackers ready to pounce around every virtual corner?
Answer: You need to act before the event to reduce the risks presented to you.
Firstly – train your people. Make sure they are alive to the risks and how to deal with them. Training should include your senior team, and educate them about safeguarding information electronically and dealing with suspected or actual breaches. It’s a well-known fact that the vast majority of data breaches occur due to human error.
Secondly – use the technology available. Use the raft of technological tools available to help safeguard your emails. It’s often worth calling in the experts to help you with this. As ever, being proactive with your email security is far better (and far cheaper) than being reactive!
